Ah-So double-bladed corkscrew, cork extractor for champagne and red wine

Champagnes and red wines. This double-bladed corkscrew extractor handles two radically different types of corks: the cylindrical champagne cork (38mm long) and the conical red wine cork (standard 44mm). The two blades—10cm and 8cm—extend the full length of each type. The 8mm width provides sufficient contact surface to support an old champagne cork without tearing it, while remaining compatible with the neck of a standard Bordeaux bottle.

  • Blades 8mm wide, lengths 10cm + 8cm: compatible with champagne (38mm) and red (44mm)
  • Chrome-plated stainless steel — resistant to tartaric acid, champagne, and tannic wines
  • Ergonomic body allowing for a two-finger or full-hand grip depending on the cap
  • Ah-So Extractor: cap removed whole, can be resealed immediately after use

Champagne corks present a particular challenge, especially in very old models: they expand under residual pressure and stick to the glass. On these bottles, the Ah-So corkscrew gradually inserts the blades and gently releases the lateral pressure before extraction. Unlike a helical corkscrew, which would pierce a swollen cork and risk breaking it in two, the bi-blade technique physically bypasses this problem.

Champagne extraction: specific characteristics

Limonadier recommends first checking that the residual pressure is zero (the cork doesn't pop). In champagne over 20 years old, the internal pressure has generally dissipated. Insert the corkscrew blades on the side opposite the curve of the cylindrical cork—the straightest side. Penetration is easier at this point. Slowly push the blades down to the bottom of the cork, approximately 38mm. Rotate the cork 180° before pulling. The cork will come out intact and can be resealed to preserve the wine for 24 hours.
