The 20° bevel at the tip of the needle is a crucial technical detail. A bevel less than 15° quickly dulls on dense corks. A bevel greater than 25° creates an excessively wide channel and can tear brittle corks. The 20° angle represents the optimal compromise according to tests conducted by medical device manufacturers—a technique similar to that used in hypodermic needles. The all-stainless-steel construction eliminates any risk of plastic contamination from contact with wine on models with composite bodies.
