The stainless steel helical screw has a consistent 4mm pitch between each turn, ensuring uniform penetration into the cork.

The 4mm pitch between the turns optimizes penetration across the full spectrum of available corks: light Provence cork (density 0.10-0.12 g/cm³), medium Bordeaux cork (0.14-0.16 g/cm³), and dense Burgundy Grand Cru cork (0.18-0.22 g/cm³). A pitch that is too tight will tear the light corks; a pitch that is too loose will not hold the dense corks. The 4mm pitch is a compromise validated by manufacturers of professional sommelier tools since the 1980s.
